Whether you are building a new home or it’s simply time to replace your heating-ventilation-air conditioning (HVAC) system, selecting the right system can be a daunting task. As one of the more expensive purchases you will make, it is important to make the right decision based on your budget and needs – keeping in mind, your HVAC system is the key to temperature control and the comfort of your home. We would like to suggest a few steps that you need to take in order to choose the correct HVAC system.

If your HVAC equipment is the heart of your home, then the ducts make up its circulatory system. Ductwork channels conditioned air to vents, takes return air back into the system and transports exhaust air and waste heat to the exterior of your home. Ducts serve a triple purpose: They carry warmth in winter, hold cool air in summer and provide ventilation for better indoor air quality throughout the year. Because they’re in use almost every day, your ducts need occasional maintenance to improve the longevity of your heating and air conditioning equipment. If you are replacing your HVAC equipment be sure and have a professional contractor inspect the ducts that are currently installed to ensure they are in good condition.

Finding a Furnace

If you are replacing your furnace you should consider replacing your old heating system with a newer energy-efficient system.  This can save you 20% in energy cost.  If you are building a new home remember higher efficiency have been archived through improvements in the design of the air handler. The Air Handling Unit, is a device used to regulate and circulate air as part of a heating, ventilating, and air-conditioning system. An air handler is usually a large metal box containing a blower, a heating or cooling elements, filter racks or chambers, sound attenuators, and dampers.  Air handlers usually connect to a duct-work ventilation system that distributes the conditioned air through the building and returns it to the AHU. A variable speed air Handler has motors that can run at varying speeds.  This allows for greater energy efficiency because you can choose the optimal speed needed to maintain the indoor temperature. Make sure you get the right size equipment for your home so as it ensure greater efficiency.  Ask a professional contract to calculate the size of the heating system that your house needs to ensure optimal and efficient operations.

Finding an Air Conditioner

An efficient and high performance air conditioner is vital for keeping your home cool as well as maintaining indoor air quality.  The SEER ( Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio) rating of a unit is the cooling output during a typical cooling-season divided by the total electric energy input during the same period. The higher the unit’s SEER rating the more energy efficient it is.  Upgrading to an air conditioner with a higher SEER can help to reduce your energy bills by up to 40%.  Purchase a model with variable speed scroll compressors, they produce less noise.  An all aluminum evaporate coil is advised to ensure that they have less leaks and corrosion compared to the copper and steel coils.

Consider a Heat Pump

Technically, a heat pump is a mechanical-compression cycle refrigeration system that can be reversed to either heat or cool a controlled space. Installation for this type of system typically consists of two parts: an indoor unit called an air handler and an outdoor unit similar to a central air conditioner, but referred to as a heat pump. A compressor circulates refrigerant that absorbs and releases heat as it travels between the indoor and outdoor units. These are the most efficient electrical heating systems currently available on the market.  You can easily knock off up to 40% from your heating bill.
